ARTS D&G is delighted to have received support through Creative Scotland’s Expanded Festivals Fund, providing an exciting opportunity to invest in ambitious new work and strengthen the development of creative talent within Dumfries & Galloway.
The award will support theatre director Ellie Stevens as she works with a renowned international performing arts practitioner to develop Tam: A New Scottish Musical (Working Title), an ambitious new Scottish musical rooted in the culture, stories and heritage of the region.
The project represents a significant opportunity for Ellie to further develop her creative practice while creating meaningful opportunities for performers, musicians and other creative practitioners across the South of Scotland.
As ARTS D&G CEO Simon Hart explains, the funding will enable one of the region’s leading theatre makers to develop her skills and expertise while creating a new production of the highest quality, ultimately bringing innovative and inspiring visual theatre to rural audiences across Dumfries & Galloway. For Ellie, the award demonstrates what is possible when ambitious work is developed within a rural context, providing the scale and support needed to showcase the strength, creativity and potential of artists living and working in the region.
The project marks an exciting step forward for ARTS D&G’s commitment to supporting local talent, developing ambitious new work and ensuring that audiences across Dumfries & Galloway have access to high-quality, innovative performing arts.
